Townsville resident Barbara May Cheshire, having graduated from Atherton State High School in 1958, went on to pursue a career in creative arts and education through the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE and James Cook University where she both studied and taught. Her work - which includes sculptures, drawings, and mixed media – has focused on “the visual language of Christian spirituality” and explored the connection of the physical and spiritual by looking at interaction between the senses, spirituality, creative process, and place. These works have featured in many exhibits and won multiple awards.
