Summary
About the Artwork
"This work was done by a young woman at the beginning of her career in Lockhart River - in many ways symbolizes the journey our JCU students are embarking on - many who have had to leave country to do so. I hope it serves to inspire and connect Indigenous students during their university journey." Professor Sabina Knight
Professor Sabina Knight purchased the artwork from the Lockhart River Art Centre around 1998 - the artist was a young person at the time and very early in their career. This print (or one of the prints from this edition) was displayed at the Pacific Wave Festival, Bondi Pavilion Gallery, Bondi Beach NSW as part of Cape Country Gulf Sea, an exhibition by the Cape York and the Gulf of Carpentaria Aboriginal Artists Alliance.
About Rosella's Painting practice:
"I paint about my Country and people around me. I paint about traditional culture and stories in my own style. I paint about things that happen, things we do, the weather and about how our people live. I enjoy my art". Rosella Namok
