August Karl (Alf) Glindemann was born in Brisbane in 1885. Glindemann married Mary Caroline Smith, and they had three sons and a daughter. Mary died in 1942 and Alf died alone, from heart failure, in 1944 at his Lone Pine camp at Mount Fox in 1944. He was a bushman, horseman, timber-cutter, miner, kangaroo shooter and a naturalist who collected and grew orchids. He was a member of the Queensland Orchid Society and a lecturer and writer on North Queensland orchids.
