Summary
This collection of personal and official letters, notes, illustrations of family trees, reminiscences and personal effects are from the Daintree family, with some references to Richard Daintree (1832-1878) and his wife Lettice Agnes. References to the Foot or Foote family as far back as the sixteenth century also form an integral part of this collection. Richard Daintree was a pioneering Australian geologist and photographer and in particular, Daintree was the first government geologist for North Queensland, discovering coal seams and gold fields.
Several features in North Queensland have been named after Richard Daintree including Daintree National Park, Daintree Rainforest, Daintree Reef, Daintree River and the town of Daintree.
Researchers are encouraged to also see 'Daintree, Richard (1832 -1878)' at the Encyclopedia of Australian Science (see Related Links), which lists other universities' Richard Daintree and family-related records.
