Currie; Atherton; Atherton Shire Council; clerks; British immigration; European immigration; development
Summary
J.F. Currie, a former Atherton Shire Clerk and Secretary of the Atherton Chamber of Commerce, was a strong advocate of the development of the north by means of British and European immigration in the post-World War II period.
Most of this collection consists of documents about tenders and loans relating to fencing work and dates from 1940-1941. Also included is the text of the 'Proposed Scheme as adopted by the Tableland and Coastal Shires of North Queensland for Submission to the Development and Migration Commission'. This submission was the ultimate result of Currie's advocacy for development of the north by closer settlement.
These records can usefully be read in conjunction with the records of the Atherton Shire Council (see Related Links).
