Summary
50th Anniversary Commemoration (1992) Battle of the Coral Sea.
The Battle of the Coral Sea marked a major turning point for World War II in the Pacific. From 1942 to 1945, Townsville was the base for a large number of Australian and United States military personnel who fought in the Pacific Ocean. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Coral Sea victory over Japan, Townsville held various celebrations, memorial services, exhibitions and cultural events from 1-13 May 1992.
This collection covers much of the work done by the organising committees for these events and ephemera associated with the celebrations.
