Charlotte Cameron; composers; pianists; Townsville; Townsville Waltz; Canberra Waltz; Cleveland Bay; sheet music
Summary
Charlotte Cameron was a Townsville composer with talented musical daughters. This archive consists of two fragile and torn pages of piano sheet music entitled "Cleveland Bay" and a shortened version of the "Townsville Waltz." This latter score was received by the Townsville Daily Bulletin in 1912 (Saturday, 28 December) and originally dedicated to the Honourable Robert Philp. Charlotte Cameron also wrote "Canberra Waltz." Copies were available for purchase in the 1913 (Friday, 23 May) Townsville Daily Bulletin. As with her other pieces of music, "Cleveland Bay" was published by Troedel & Cooper Pty Ltd in the 1920's.
A 1927 advertisement in the Brisbane Courier¹ suggests Cameron ran her own studio, the Orpheus Studio, in Brisbane, and contributed to the Royal Tour celebrations.
"Royal tour souvenir, Canberra, with coloured Australian cover, composed and designed by Charlotte Cameron. Copies may be had from leading music sellers or the composer, Mrs Rod. Cameron, Orpheus Studio, Orchestrated parts to order. 'Phone C. 8587."
