Summary
Cecil and his father Frederick Bussey were involved in mining in North Queensland. Cecil held a driller's license and worked for the Shell Company and Pool Petroleum Depot. He lived in Atherton and made social visits to Townsville where his father resided in the latter part of his life. His father was a well-respected mine manager in his younger days. Frederick Bussey's death notice below provides details about his life and his children.
"The sudden death, which occurred during the early hours of Wednesday morning, of Mr. Frederick Bussey, aged 69, removes yet another of Ravenswood's well-known mining personalities. In his younger days, a powerful man, standing 6 feet three inches, he was considered one of the crack miners on the Ravenswood goldfield. Coming to Townsville in 1927, he took up residence at Bayswater Terrace, Hyde Park, and was for some 12 years an employee of the Townsville City Council, at the quarry, retiring six years ago as the result of ill health. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Robert, of Ayr, Harold of the Townsville Harbour Board, and Cec of the Shell Company, Atherton, and two sisters, Mesdames M. Gabriel of Ravenswood, and J. Byrnes of Townsville. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended."¹
