Summary
Antrim Station, approximately 100 km south of Hughenden, was owned by Charles Robert Akins in the 1930s and 40s. Akins spent his school years at Geelong Grammar School and obtained a diploma in wool-classing before returning to Antrim Station.
Enlisting for the First World War at age eighteen, he served as part of the 8th Light Horse Regiment, 21st Reinforcements from June 1916 to July 1919 and twenty years later enlisted for the Second World War.
Akins married Nancy Green, daughter of well-known Townsville Bulletin editor, David Green (see the Marjorie Green Archive) [see Related URLs].
This archive contains a wool classing book with notes on wool-classing and Antrim Station shearing records, a letter regarding a tax return, and photographs.
The letter in the collection is from the Townsville accounting practice of A W Fadden. Arthur William Fadden, born in Ingham Qld in 1894, succeeded Menzies as Prime Minister on 29 August 1941.
