Summary
John Gilbert Harrison (1908-1989) was born in Ravenswood, Qld. Having won a State Scholarship in 1921, he went to All Souls' School, Charters Towers, where his mother, Matron Harrison, worked. In 1923 he passed the Junior examination, and in 1925 the Senior examination. From 1927-29 he studied for an Arts degree at Queensland University, where he also took a distinguished part in athletics. In 1930 he attended St Francis Anglican Theological College, Nundah, in Brisbane.
In the first ceremony of ordination to the priesthood to be held In Charters Towers, he was ordained deacon by Dr Feetham, Bishop of North Queensland, in November 1931 at St Paul's Church of England. Harrison was the first All Souls' boy to enter the ministry. Following his ordination, he took up duties at St James's Cathedral, Townsville. On 15 January 1933, Reverend John Gilbert Harrison was ordained to the Priesthood at St James's Cathedral.
