Summary

An extract from the Acknowledgement:

This is a companion volume to "Barnes on Box Jellyfish" which was published in 1986. The basis of that volume was the search through a series of tape transcripts, and through published papers and unpublished notes in an attempt to glean as much information as possible about Dr. Jack Barnes' many years of research into box jellyfish.

When "Barnes on Box Jellyfish" was completed, there were two options. These were either that the material which had been given to the University should be archived at that time, or that a further attempt to extract more information from the notes and records should be made.

I knew that there was still a great deal of potentially useful information in these notes and files. I also knew the shorthand and the terminology, having spent a (much too short) time discussing them with Barnes prior to starting the first collation of his research. It seemed appropriate to attempt to continue with the collation.
